1" ID Flexible Convoluted PTFE Hose
1" ID (Inside Diameter) Flexible Convoluted PTFE Hose is a highly flexible, chemically resistant hose used for transferring fluids in demanding environments, featuring a helical "bellows" design for superior bend radius, often reinforced with stainless steel braid, and available in natural or static-dissipative (black) PTFE for applications needing kink resistance, high purity, and broad chemical compatibility.
Convoluted PTFE tubing is a highly flexible, chemically inert, and temperature-resistant (-65°C to 260°C)hose with a corrugated structure, ideal for transferring corrosive fluids and gases. It features excellent flex life, kink resistance, and self-draining properties, with options for stainless steel wire reinforcement and specialized cuffs for easier, secure connections.
Convoluted PTFE tube procedures involve creating highly flexible, chemical-resistant tubing by inflating or mechanically forming extruded resin, often including smoothed "cuffed" ends for secure, leak-proof connections. Key steps include manufacturing via spiral convolution, cutting with specialized tools to prevent fraying, and assembling with barb or compression fittings.
Manufacturing and Shaping
Production
Convoluted tubes are produced by extruding, then stretching/forming, and often curing, resulting in a tube that is four times more flexible than smooth-bore.
Cuffing
For easier installation, the convolutions are removed at the ends to create "cuffed" (straight) sections, allowing for standard barb or compression fittings.
Key Features & Benefits
Material
The inner core is made from PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) resin, which is a highly inert, non-stick material resistant to most corrosive liquids and high temperatures.
01
Flexibility
The convoluted (spiral) shape provides excellent flexibility and a tight bend radius, making routing easier than smooth-bore hoses.
02
Chemical Resistance
PTFE (Teflon) is highly inert, resisting breakdown from aggressive chemicals, solvents, and high temperatures.
03
High Purity
Smooth, rounded convolutions allow for easy cleaning and self-draining, ideal for food, pharma, and chemical processing.
04
Reinforcement
Typically uses a 304 or 316 stainless steel braid for strength, pressure handling, and kink prevention.
05
Temperature Range
Can handle extreme temperatures, often from -85°F to 500°F (-65°C to 260°C).
06
Pressure Rating
With stainless steel braiding, a 1-inch ID hose can have maximum working pressure ratings up to around 1,000 psi at 70°F, according to specifications from Grainger.
07
Special Options
For applications where electrostatic charges might occur during fluid transfer, anti-static (conductive) core tubes are available.
08
Typical Applications
Due to their robust properties, convoluted PTFE hoses are widely used across various industries:
Chemical Processing
Transfer of harsh acids, solvents, and other aggressive chemicals.
01
Food & Beverage
Handling flavors, water, and sanitizing solutions in applications requiring sanitary, FDA-approved materials.
02
Pharmaceutical & Biotech
Used for sterile filling lines and systems where high purity and steam cleaning are necessary.
03
Transportation & Aerospace
Used in hydraulic return, fuel, engine oil, and coolant lines due to their lightweight and temperature tolerance.
04
Industrial Labs
Ideal for general laboratory uses, processing, and packaging due to chemical compatibility and flexibility.
05
Maintenance and Handling
Handling
Avoid sharp bends that exceed the minimum bend radius, even though the tubing is flexible.
Inspection
Regularly check for leaks and damage, particularly in high-vibration applications.
Cleaning
Convoluted tubes are suitable for Clean-in-Place (CIP) or Steam-in-Place (SIP) procedures.
