Heat Shrinked Teflon Tubing
Heat shrink Teflon (PTFE) tubing is a high-performance material known for its exceptional chemical resistance, high temperature tolerance (up to 260°C or 500°F), and very low coefficient of friction. It is widely used in demanding applications such as aerospace, medical devices, and chemical processing.

Procedure for Heat Shrink Teflon (PTFE) Tubing
Preparation: Clean the component thoroughly to remove grease or debris.
Cutting: Measure and cut the PTFE tubing, accounting for approximately 5%-10% longitudinal shrinkage.
Positioning: Slide the tubing over the wire or component.
Heating Method:
Best Practice: Use a high-temperature heat gun (capable of >327°C) or a small torch.
Industrial Method: For rollers, use a heat gun, rotate at 6–8 RPM, and maintain a 1.5"–2" distance.
Shrinking Technique:
◎ Apply heat evenly, rotating the component.
◎ Start from the center and work towards the ends to prevent air bubbles.
◎ The tubing will turn from opaque to clear when it reaches its gelatinous state and shrinks.
Cooling and Inspection: Allow the tubing to cool naturally to a milky white color before handling. Inspect for a secure, uniform fit without splits or gaps.
Important Notes:
Safety: Always work in a well-ventilated area because PTFE can emit fumes at high temperatures.
Overheating: Avoid overheating, which can cause the tubing to turn brittle or split.
Caution: Standard electric heat guns may not reach the required temperature for all types of PTFE shrink.

Temperature Resistance
It has a wide continuous operating temperature range, from -65°C (-85°F) up to 260°C (500°F). Its melting point is around 320°C (608°F).

Electrical Insulation
PTFE has excellent dielectric strength, providing reliable electrical insulation for wires and components.
Low Friction/Non-Stick
With the lowest coefficient of friction of any polymer, it is useful in applications where a lubricious surface is needed, such as on actuating levers or as roller covers.
Environmental Protection
It is flame retardant (UL94 V0 and VW-1 ratings), impervious to UV radiation and weather, and provides a tight, moisture-resistant seal.
Biocompatibility
PTFE has a proven history of use in medical devices and can be sterilized using ETO and autoclave protocols.
